Will definitely be back next year!

Went camping here on a friend's recommendation, and very happy we did! Campgrounds were spotless, security was great (love the gated entry/exit), staff was unfailingly polite, all in all just a great place. This is mainly an RV campground, so tent campers might feel slightly out of place (not in a bad way). We had lot 394 and it was just fine. I think we'll try the primitive tent sites next time, as they are right on the banks of the Juniata River. You can't do better than that. As for the noise from the train, I am a train nut so I loved it. It's not obtrusive at all, but it is there all the same. It's fun to watch them pass by, and the children seemed to like them as well. The Juniata River is gorgeous - we had fun wading across to the other shore. Will definitely rent a canoe or kayak next year and go down the river. There is plenty to see and do locally, and there is a decent little dinner right at the main 4 way stop sign in Port Royal. We definitely enjoyed our stay here. You can tell the owners really take pride in the operation and it shows. We will be back for sure next year!

Mixed Feelings

I'm not certain if we would ever return. While the campground is beautiful and there is a lot to do, there were several areas of improvement for our stay. We stayed in a log cabin and it looked as though it had not been cleaned. Trash was left in the cans, the floors were filthy and the sink looked like it had not been cleaned. When we arrived, we had to wait while staff checked to see if the cabin had been cleaned and it was already past check-in time. This should have been taken care of before we got there. While the service was great overall, one of the staff members mentioned to me that she thought she might have caught another staff member taking a "cat nap". This was very unprofessional.

Great Place!

Buttonwood is a model of what campgrounds should be. Clean, spacious, well kept, and a friendly staff all contribute to a great and satisfying stay. This well maintained facility strives to provide the best experience possible for either the full timer or the weekend camper. Their recent renovations of the "river" area have made this area top notch with full service capabilities for nearly every site. Activities for the kids and some for the adults, makes this more than just a place to park your RV. This is one place I can't wait to come back to every year. With the upgrade they are working on with their WiFi, there will be an even better camping experience. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a fenced in dog park for their canine visitors. Even so, your pooch will still enjoy the chance to take long walks around the campground while you enjoy the beautiful landscaping and meeting friendly sociable neighbors. Great Job!
