Our visit was interrupted by a fall about 15 minutes after parking in out favorite camp site # 20. Harold came and helped to get my Husband in the car for a trip to the ER. We had to leave our 2 small dogs in the motorhome unattented. Joan came down to our site and let the dogs out (and cleaned up a poop inside) before we came back. My Husband was on a walker (nothing broken) and Harold came back to assist him up the five steps into the motorhome. After a full day in the rig he was able to desend the steps by himself and we started on our interrupted vacation riding the mountain pass roads in the high country. We were about a week too early for the best color but the weather was beautiful. Site 20 is my favorite camp site of all our travels. The stream and the trees and the wonderful camp management make for a wonderful vacation.

We visited during a picture perfect Colorado week in July to find a shady spot next to the creek that suited us perfectly. While sites are somewhat close, lower campground is sited to maximize privacy and access to the river. Upper campground has good views, but pretty exposed. There's tons to do in the campground and the area so it's a great not-too-close getaway. Friendly staff, well maintained and very clean.
Only comment would be that for non-water sites, the creek access is a bit restricted. It's there, just not centrally located.

This is our 2nd time at Chalk Creek and we love the location which is a short drive to the hot springs and a short drive to town. Campground is nice and clean, lots for the kids to do and clean, modern bathrooms with showers. Our kids loved the Labor Day ducky races in the canal - so fun!
