Mother's day weekend

Great location on the Animas river. Park is maintained very well and has clean facilities. The park was probably only half full when we were there but it was very peaceful and relaxing. The wi-fi did leave a lot to be desired. I talked to the office staff and they said that whenever they have a lot of kids in the park (soccer tournament weekend) their wi-fi slows due to the kids streaming. As a 30+ year IT veteran it was clear to me that they just do not have the bandwidth needed for a park this size--this was very disappointing to me, but would not keep me from coming back. I do hope they get this fixed--would make it hard to find any issues at all with the park if they do. Go and enjoy!!!!!

Paradise Found

Even john Milton couldn't have imagined Paradise like this. We have traveled all of five continents and are spending six months touring our own country. We are from Lowcountry Charleston, SC and this is the best campground we've ever stayed in, bar none. True, we were here before the season opened with only about 5 other campers, but even in the busiest of seasons, this would be a dream come true. There is a pool, gameroom, ice cream parlor, & theater which would be ideal for families, but ware too early for us. There are also 1 - 3 room cabins with porches hanging over the burbling river waters. However, we had begged Kelly to let us escape the NM wind and dust for two nights, then when we saw his park, begged for three nights and then for five even though his park didn't open for two more weeks and didn't yet even have the water turned on after the snows. He graciously accommodated us and then some. He and his wife turned water on for all our uses. We were able to do our laundry, let our dogs run, take hot showers in large, clean facilities. Friendly, courteous directions and answers to all our questions, petitions for firewood, requests for bathrooms and laundry went way out of their way for our comfort. Their daily visits to check on us made us feel at home. We slept w/ a gurgling Animas R. out our bedroom windows, a zillion diamond point stars in a pitch black sky. We watched beavers rebuild dams on a smaller tributary across from our nightly campfire under the spruce trees as fast as the owner tried to pull them down. Jim walked the pebble beach everyday hoping for trophy rainbow, brown or cutthroat trout. We were in an idyllic Colorado landscape far enough from tourist frenzy but close enough to do day trips to Mesa Verde, Anasazi Cultural Center, Hovenweep, 4 Corners, and take the romantic Durango to Silverton narrow gage railroad that whistled by our park once a day. We are now trying to figure out how to get back w/ our kids & grands!!
