Mice in Cabin

My husband and I booked a cabin in February for our family vacation in July. Our children had never experienced camping before and we thought this would be fun. The first two nights were uneventful, the third night we heard scratching in the walls and found mice droppings on the countertops. I told the office person there were mice but I didn't want the exterminator to come. Who wants to find dead mice in their cabin when you're on vacation? When I returned to the cabin I opened the cabinet door under the sink and saw a mouse trap. Management KNEW there were mice in the cabin and checked us in any way! I went back to the office and spoke to the owner. He said he knew about the mice and they had killed many before our arrival. I told him that be should have called us and offered to refund our deposit instead of checking us into a cabin with mice. He didn't care. He sent the exterminator who came and sprayed. The next morning when I was dropping off the key he asked rather smugly if we found any dead mice. I told him no, only live ones running across the counter at 6:00am trying to escape. No apology. In my opinion, the new owner (December 2012) is inept. He doesn't have a hospitable bone in his body and I would never recommend this place to anyone. It's obvious that all he cares about is revenue and not the guest experience. There was NOT ONE ORGANIZED ACTIVITY. This kind of experience is not what I expect from KOA.

We loved the location and evn road name for this campground, and drove a pleasurable two hour drive just to stay here. It began with teenage boys riding their bikes around our campsite after dark, whom we saw again in the morning, even though we had politely just let them know that was our campsite. Nothing wrong with riding, it was about space awareness. If you go, maybe try a primitive cabin.... Anything to block out the noise of the party cabin across the river from the final campsite in the row. Loud music till the sun came up, with yelling and shrieking and various noise, so much that even the beautiful creek sound couldnt cover it up. Then the older teenage biy that rode up and stared at us and our stuff when we were just waking from a little sleep about 7 to 9 am ( thanks to the noise). Then the same boys from the night before came by again. Ipoverall, its beautiful and the idea great. The realuty, too many people! Who werent very considerate of others! Maybe it would be better not on a weekend? Or just go somewhere else.

Great campground! Excellent service from owner, Dee and her staff. We loved our tent site right along the river and the facilities were so clean and inviting. Our side trip to hike in the Joyce Kelmer Memorial Forest was just the thing we needed to renourish our souls! Thanks Dee for recommending it and thank you for your excellent hospitality! We would encourage others to plan a stay at your gem of a campground.
