Park w/pool and water access - Great Staff - Bad experience with owner
0 % of users found this review helpful
First the park:
1) There is a salt-water pool (indoor). It was very usable (heated) in the spring even when the weather was cool.
2) There is primitive river access and water in the river even in drought conditions. You'll need to be sure-footed to get to the river.
3) Park is clean, bathrooms showers were cleaned several times per day by staff.
4) Internet reviews indicate issues with tree care, but trees were well trimmed.
Things we didn't like:
1) Pool house needs repair. Some rot and rust (salt water) inside. Still works fine!
2) The gate, I didn't trust that a long rig could get through w/o the arm coming down. Staff held it open for us.
My complaint:
I had a run-in (unexpected) with one of the owners (David). I went to get it straightened out with staff and David spend 2-3 minutes yelling, personally insulting me. He scared my wife and my child. I didn't argue, didn't talk back, I just took it. I let David cool off and hoped that the (very nice) staff would explain to him that we had a misunderstanding, but when I checked back 2 hours later and asked if David understood how we got on the wrong foot all I got was an "un-huh".
Staff did allow us to leave early and refunded a day.
The senior owner - Jim was much more reasonable. On the advice of staff and some of the more permanent campers I called. Jim told me that he was sorry about my experience and that they'd be issuing some free passes to the park for future use. 2 Months later, I still haven't received them.
I don't mind being corrected if we do something wrong, but make sure that the rules were provided. If you have an issue with a camper, maybe a calm discussion free of personal insults would help. And if you're going to insult the people that pay the bills, the least you could do is listen for a minute or two after you've finished with the personal insults...
Jim: Sorry.. You guys had more than one chance here.

Beautiful Campground
0 % of users found this review helpful
Beautiful campground, immaculate sites. Easy access from I-10 and I35. Staff was friendly and helpful. While not on concrete pads, the sites are solid and level, perfect for our Fleetwood Revolution. the fenced dog park was perfect for our 40lb dog to have some time off leash! San Marcos also has a very large dog park nearby. Right on the river, this campground was perfect for our family visits, shopping at local towns, and seeing the Texas hill country area. We will return for a longer visit.

surprisingly bad experience
0 % of users found this review helpful
We stayed in one of their cabins and were very disappointed. Rather expensive for a a one bedroom "prefab" trailer with a 3 ft. high loft, usable only by small children, at $210/night. On top of that, there was a posted sign saying that we had to clean the place up or an additional $30 charge would be put on our credit card. The requirement included "Wash out refrigerator, freezer and microwave", "wash down stovetop and oven interior", "sweep floor", "take out garbage to dumpster", plus more. We did not know about this until after checking in.
The toilet backed up, some of the window blinds didn't work, and the office was only open from 10am to 5pm.
Also, the internet wi-fi was often slow to non-existent.
