Virginia's Beach: Erie, PA

VB's website advertises two beaches: the "sandy" beach and the "rocky" beach. They claim that beach conditions vary based on the Lake and weather. This is BUNK and flat-out MISLEADING. The rocky beach consists of stairs leading to a long concrete slab with rusted metal cords sticking out. It's a three foot drop from that in to the lake where large rocks with jagged-looking edges wait for you. Mind the waves, too, or they will slap you against the concrete. The sandy beach should be re-named the "pile of rocks and driftwood" beach. Is sand there? Sure. Here and there--in between the aforementioned rocks and driftwood. The water here is much like the other with flat/slippery or jagged-edged rocks everywhere. DO NOT trust the carefully taken pictures on their website. Would I swim there? If I were a single adult and feeling adventurous, maybe. Otherwise, no. And it's definitely NOT FOR CHILDREN. A complete and total lack of professionalism. After learning about the real status of the beaches on site and the fact that I had a 40-mile round trip drive (after driving 245 miles across the state) to the nearest beach, I asked for a refund. I did this via cellphone from Presque Isle (I wanted to see what the drive and location here was like before asking for a refund in fairness to VB). The woman who answered took an offensive tone and stated "We don't do refunds for anyone." I tried to explain my thoughts about VB's beaches to which she replied "Oh, you can swim there." I then tried to express my concern about safety. She cut me off mid-sentence nearly shouting "I'm dealing with other people right now. No refunds." She then hung up on me. Not wanting to risk eating the $300 we SAVED for and SPENT on our cabin, we decided to stay at VB and just suck up the 40-mile round trip drive to the beaches while there. Bottom line: Campers beware.

Don't believe what you read on their website

What a horrible campground! Nothing like the website! If you want WIFI you must stand on the top of the hill and maybe you'll get the internet. Reservations are useless even though you pay ahead. You won't be placed where you reserved a site. Bathrooms should be condemned as they look as though they haven't been cleaned of feces and debris from years of accumulation. Totally gross and unsanitary! The host/owner is rude if you complain about the conditions and asks you to leave instead of rectifying the problem. We have camped all over the United States and this place is the lowest of the low. The beach is only about 6 foot wide and covered with rocks and driftwood. Who knows when the photo was taken that is used on their website, it certainly doesn't look like that now. We did get our money back when we left early but the situation was not pleasant! Never ever would I return to this place or recommend it to my worst enemy (if I had one).

Large campsite so you are not on top of each other. Mostly level sites. Nice quite place. The store has many items. The only bad thing is the water pressure is on the lower side. I just used the motor home pump.

Loved your campground!

I dragged our family to your campground, with everyone apprehensive because we had never been there and they are not real fond of tent camping. We ALL loved it! My stepdaughter said "we should do this more often" and the others have all asked when we are going back! The bathhouse was clean, the grounds in general were clean, the cabin we looked at was clean, and we loved having the private beach! We went to the state park one day during stay, and all of us could not wait to get back to the private campground beach instead! Waldameer and the diner across street from it are some of our fondest places in the area. Thank you for your hospitality and for letting us visit!
