Big Sioux Recreation Area lies on the banks of South Dakota's Big Sioux River. Close to the cities of Brandon and Sioux Falls, Big Sioux is popular among campers, canoers, history buffs and archers. When the snow flies, groups of snowmobilers gather at the enclosed warming house. Campsites are open from May to October and log cabins can be booked year-round. Reservations can be done quickly and securely on your computer with the convenient online system. Make your selection, then pack up for a great vacation.
Comfy cabins come with a set of bunk beds, a double bed, table and benches. Outside, you'll find a fire grate, picnic table and delightful scenery. Be sure to bring utensils for outdoor cooking, sleeping bags and bed linens, a cooler for food storage and container for water. RV sites are back-in and there are also tent-only sites. Amenities to make your stay more enjoyable include a playground, picnic shelter, flush toilets and showers. Fishing poles, games and snowshoes can be checked out for use at the park.
Big Sioux Recreation Area features an archery range and course, an 18-hole disc golf course, a paved bike trail and a dog training area. Among the events at the park are the annual Big Sioux Bustle GPS/Geocaching Race, where teams race to find hidden caches, Spooktacular Trails at Halloween time and the Dutch Oven Gathering potluck.
