    Description

Big Sioux Recreation Area lies on the banks of South Dakota's Big Sioux River. Close to the cities of Brandon and Sioux Falls, Big Sioux is popular among campers, canoers, history buffs and archers. When the snow flies, groups of snowmobilers gather at the enclosed warming house. Campsites are open from May to October and log cabins can be booked year-round. Reservations can be done quickly and securely on your computer with the convenient online system. Make your selection, then pack up for a great vacation.

Comfy cabins come with a set of bunk beds, a double bed, table and benches. Outside, you'll find a fire grate, picnic table and delightful scenery. Be sure to bring utensils for outdoor cooking, sleeping bags and bed linens, a cooler for food storage and container for water. RV sites are back-in and there are also tent-only sites. Amenities to make your stay more enjoyable include a playground, picnic shelter, flush toilets and showers. Fishing poles, games and snowshoes can be checked out for use at the park.

Big Sioux Recreation Area features an archery range and course, an 18-hole disc golf course, a paved bike trail and a dog training area. Among the events at the park are the annual Big Sioux Bustle GPS/Geocaching Race, where teams race to find hidden caches, Spooktacular Trails at Halloween time and the Dutch Oven Gathering potluck. For more activity, notable attractions in the area include Palisades State Park, Pipestone National Monument, the Great Plains Zoo, Huset's Speedway and the Grand Falls Casino.

    wet visit

Great campground and facilities. Unfortunately we received 5-7 inches of rain. No campfires, trails, etc.

    pleasant

We camp at Big Sioux twice during the season. We like the campground and the restrooms are always clean by staff, sometimes campers can be very messy, but it doesn't last long and the staff has taken care of it. It is close to Sioux Falls and we enjoy antiquing, thrift store shopping, and going to the cheap movie theater at the mall.

    Overnight Stop

Stopped here for a couple nights on our way to Custer SP. Really pleased with our choice to spend time here. Enjoyed hiking trails in the area and Sioux Falls. Nice level pads and good size camping spots. Would come back here again.

    2 night stay

We stayed 2 night's here in early Sept 2018 in a 20' RPod. The sites are spacious, lots of room between sites, lots of trees. The bathroom has flush toilets and clean showers. Very nice campground with dump station too. Close to laundry and shopping if you need that on your travels.
