A great basecamp to explore NPS sites
I recently camped at Stockade Lake South as part of a road trip to visit Mouth Rushmore NM, Jewel Cave NM, Wind Cave NP, and Crazy Horse Mem. Custer SP is a great, central location to stay making daily excursions to the parks & memorials very easy.
Stockade Lake South was an incredibly clean, quiet camp. The hosts were very friendly & helpful - even going out of their way to check availability with other SP camps when I asked to extend my stay another day (no vacancies were left at Stockade unfortunately). The restroom & shower facilities were clean & comfortable as well. Campsites were well maintained and spacious. I would return to camp there again.
The only complaint I would have is the entrance fee for the park - $20 for a week seems a little high seeing as the only SP facility I visited/used during my stay was the campground. Other state parks that I've visited often waive the daily use fee if you have camping reservations.
